Iran coronavirus update: Over 502,900 deaths, numbers increasing up to sixfold

Over 502,900 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, February 2. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 132,563, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 117,435 in Tehran, 40,455 in Razavi Khorasan, 34,900 in Isfahan, 30,315 in Khuzestan, 19,090 in Fars, 18,953 in West Azerbaijan, 17,398 in East, 17390 in Gilan, 16,600 in Lorestan,  Azerbaijan, 13,525 in Qom, 10,925 in Golestan, 9394 in Kermanshah, 9308 in Hamedan, 8343 in Yazd, 5629 in Bushehr, 4850 in Zanjan, 4486 in South Khorasan, and 3900 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Saturday as 64 deaths and 23,130 new cases. Furthermore, 2282 patients are in ICUs and 1529 of the new cases have been hospitalized. The Health Ministry also announced 120 cities are registered as red zones, 167 as yellow, 153 as orange, and only 8 cities are considered blue zones.

“The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized in Tehran stands at 2357, of which 699 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours, 15,850 people have sought initial medical care, and 48 percent of the PCR tests during the past week have been positive,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The Covid death toll in Tehran is rising and 50 percent of the country’s coronavirus deaths are from Tehran,” said Tehran City Council member Nosser Amani on Saturday, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Currently the hospital beds are being filled up extremely fast”

. If we continue at this rate, we will be faced with a bed shortage soon. Around 80 percent of the people seeking medical care in our emergency branches have contracted coronavirus,” said the head of Tehran’s Ali Asghar Children’s Hospital on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of people seeking initial medical care has increased by 100 percent. Furthermore, during the past ten days, the number of people hospitalized has increased by 90 percent and we currently have 800 patients hospitals,” said the head of the Razavi Khorasan Covid-19 Task Force Public Relations Office on Saturday, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

“Eighty percent of the daily coronavirus tests in Baghmolk have been positive and the number of new coronavirus cases in this city has increased by 600 percent. This has seriously sounded the alarm bell,” said the director of Baghmolk Health Network in Khuzestan province on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Last week the number of people seeking medical care in hospitals increased by six-fold in comparison to last week. During the past 24 hours more than 6,000 people have sought medical care in various centers, and during this period the number of deaths has tripled,” according to a report released on Saturday by the Ahvaz Medical Sciences University.

“Hospital are reaching their capacities. 450 coronavirus patients are currently hospitalized,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“Each day six to eleven children are hospitalized for contracting coronavirus, comprising 18 to 20 percent of the hospitalized coronavirus patients,” said the dean of Hamadan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized has tripled and three cities are registered as red zones,” said the dean of Golestan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency.
