Iran coronavirus update: Over 493,000 deaths, regime claims only 34 cases of omicron

Over 493,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Tuesday afternoon local time, December 28. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 131,474, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 115,310 in Tehran, 39,820 in Razavi Khorasan, 34,055 in Isfahan, 29,815 in Khuzestan, 17,915 in Mazandaran, 13,277 in Kerman, 9209 in Kermanshah, and 9138 in Hamedan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Tuesday as 40 deaths and 2128 new cases. Furthermore, 2751 patients are in ICUs and 351 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

While the omicron variant has spread across Iran, the regime’s Health Ministry is ridiculously attempting to limit the impact of this epidemic. “To this day 34 cases of the new omicron variant have been identified throughout the country along with eight suspicious cases that are under examination and testing. To this day 15 cases of omicron have been identified in Tehran, five in Mashhad, five in Hormozgan, two in Bushehr, two in Shiraz, and one in the cities of Babol, Isfahan, Urmia, Karaj, and Arak,” according to a statement released on Tuesday.

“The threat of omicron is serious and considering the fragile status quo, if serious and principal measures are not taken in time, we will witness a horrific outcome,” said the dean of Torbat-e Heydarieh Medical Sciences University in Razavi Khorasan province on Tuesday, according to the state-run Moj news agency.

“One confirmed case of omicron has been identified in [Alborz] province. However, considering the omicron variant our status quo is fragile and there is this possibility of more cases of omicron being discovered in Alborz province,” said the spokesperson of Alborz Province Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Samples from the first patient to have contracted omicron were sent to Tehran because we don’t have the kits in [West Azerbaijan] province,” according to a statement released by the West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday.

“Most of the kids hospitalized in the children’s section are between three months to three years of age. These patients are seeking medical care while complaining about breathing problems, and 10 to 20 percent of them have contracted coronavirus,” according to a statement released by the North Khorasan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday.
