Behrouz Ehsani, PMOI supporter on death row, sends message from inside prison

Message from Behrouz Ehsani, political prisoner sentenced to death by Iran’s regime for supporting the PMOI:

Honorable and heroic people of Iran, I, Behrouz Ehsani, currently imprisoned in Ward 4 of Evin Prison, was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence in December 2022 and transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 240 (under the supervision of Ward 209). After three and a half months, I was moved to Ward 4 of Evin Prison. Finally, after 22 months of uncertainty, a death sentence has been issued against me without any evidence. This executioner regime could not do otherwise. As I said during my interrogation, like the martyr Khosrow Golsorkhi, I do not negotiate over my life, especially at the age of 70, and I am not concerned about the remaining 10% of my life. I am ready for my life to be sacrificed for the freedom of the Iranian people.

Our sentence was announced to us on the second anniversary of the 2022 uprising. I send my respects to the pure souls of more than 700 martyrs of that great uprising and bow my head in reverence. This bloodthirsty regime feeds on repression and executions. Aside from political prisoners, every day, ordinary prisoners are tortured, charged with crimes and accusations that the regime itself is responsible for. They are the defenseless victims of this regime and its conditions. We have passed the 34th week of the “No to Executions” hunger strike on Tuesdays, alongside 21 other prisons across the country. We will continue our Tuesday strikes as long as the executions continue.

I ask my dear compatriots, international communities, and human rights organizations to take action against executions in Iran today, for tomorrow will be too late. Join us in the “No to Executions” Tuesday strikes. People who seek freedom and a democratic republic do not deserve execution. The silence of the global community emboldens this regime to continue its executions. Stop appeasing this regime.

Hail to all the martyrs of freedom. Hail to the honor of Iran and Iranians.

Behrouz Ehsani

Background

The judiciary of Iran’s regime issued death sentences for Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, two PMOI supporters, on the second anniversary of the 2022 uprising. This sentence, communicated to their lawyer, was issued by the notorious Judge Iman Afshari, head of Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court. These two political prisoners were sentenced to death on charges of “baghi (rebellion), moharebeh (waging war against God), corruption on Earth, membership in the PMOI, collecting classified information, and conspiracy against national security.”

The 69-year-old political prisoner Behrouz Ehsani was arrested on December 6, 2022, in Tehran and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention center (Ward 209 of Evin Prison), where he was subjected to torture. He is currently held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison.

Mehdi Hassani, 48, was arrested on September 11, 2022, in Zanjan and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, where he was subjected to physical and psychological torture. He is currently imprisoned in Ward 8 of Evin Prison.
