Families of political prisoners hold gathering in Iran to protest inhumane prison conditions

NCRI, 02 August 2010 – Relatives of political prisoners in Iran have launched a sit-in and protest in front of Tehran’s prosecutor’s office. They have gathered on 15 Khordad Square, holding pictures of their imprisoned loved ones.
The families are protesting the inhumane treatment of the prisoners, some of whom have been transferred to solitary confinement, while others are on hunger strike. Their families are unaware of their conditions because phone contacts and visits have been banned.
The regime’s suppressive forces quickly surrounded the gathering from the outset to prevent others from joining in the protest. But a large number of people still formed gatherings in the surrounding streets despite warnings by suppressive agents.
