16 prisoners launch hunger strikes in Iran

NCRI , 31 July 2010 – Sixteen prisoners at Tehran’s notorious Evin prison have been transferred to solitary confinement after protesting to the restrictions and inhumane conditions of Ward 350, Daneshjou News reported on Wednesday. The 16 inmates launched a hunger strike after being transferred to solitary confinement and have declared that they will not cease their strike unless their demands are fulfilled. Majid Tavakkoli and Kouhiar Goudarzi are among the strikers.
Meanwhile in Karaj’s Gohardasht prison, political prisoner Arjang Davoudi has been banned from family visits since Thursday on his sixteenth day of hunger strike. He is now facing worsening physical condition and has been transferred to the prison’s clinic on several occasions for low blood pressure, severe fatigue, headaches, dizziness and weakening eye sight.
His family was not allowed to meet with Mr. Davoudi on a pre-announced visit on Thursday. The regime’s agents did not allow the visit to take place and removed Mr. Davoudi from the meeting hall.
