Taverny mayor’s website reports on rally by tens of thousands of resistance supporters

NCRI, 30 June 2010– The Taverny mayor’s website this week posted a report and some pictures of the June large gathering of Iranians on June 26. The town of Taverny, just north of Paris, hosted tens of thousands of Iranians on Saturday in a gathering in support of the uprising inside Iran and Camp Ashraf, Iraq, where 3,400 opposition activists reside.

According to the mayor’s website, the People’s Mojahedin (PMOI) “gathered tens of thousands of opponents of the Iranian regime from all over Europe, North American and Australia.”

“The rally in Taverny scored a diplomatic success with the presence of figures like former US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, and former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar.”
According to the website, “The President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Maryam Rajavi, proclaimed, ‘No to turbaned fascism, no to stoning, executions and amputations; and no to compulsory veiling, obligatory religion and imposed rule.’”
“In front of her was a forest of purple umbrellas held by supporters who chanted ‘Azadi, Azadi’ (Freedom! Freedom!).”
