Dr. Saleh Mutlaq: If government transition reaches stalemate, the UN must intervene and elections be repeated

Al-Alam daily (Iraq), June 10, 2010 –  If the process of government formation  reaches a stalemate, the UN must intervene and elections should be repeated, senior Iraqiya leader Dr. Saleh Mutlaq said in an interview with Al-Alam Newspaper.

He said regional meddling is seeking to implement a dangerous tradition in Iraq, monopolizing the premiership to an ideological Shiite figure, and not even accepting an independent Shiite figure.”
Saleh Mutlaq added: The recent complexity in Iraqi faction talks is due to insistence by internal and regional parties to keep Iraq’s future in a sectarian framework. They intend to delegitimize Iraq’s elections and prevent the victor of the elections from its legal rights, because the election results did not meet the intentions of the previously mapped sectarian plans.”
