Gasoline tank explosion in Persian Gulf port leaves two casualties

Iran Focus, Tehran, 01 June 2010- One person was killed and another wounded Tuesday in an explosion in a gasoline storage tank, in Hormuzgan Province, used for providing fuel to ships in the Persian Gulf, the state-run news agency Mehr reported.

Mehr quoted the public relations office of the province’s Ports and Maritime Department as saying that the 10,000-tonne storage tank had been completely destroyed. More than 30 fire engines were deployed to contain the blaze that raged for over two hours.

On Saturday, three oil workers were killed and at least 10 injured when a fire broke out at a well at the NaftShahr oil field in Kermanshah province which borders Iraq.

An official in charge of extinguishing the blaze said on Monday the oil rig fire may take six months to put out.
