AFP, United Nations, May 3, 2010 - The head of the UN nuclear watchdog told a conference here Monday that his agency was unable to confirm that all Iranian nuclear activities were peaceful.
’In the case of Iran, the agency continues to verify the non-diversion of declared material,’ Yukiya Amano, the director general of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency told a review conference of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) here.
But he added that the IAEA ’remains unable to confirm that all nuclear material is in peaceful activities because Iran has not provided the necessary cooperation.’
