Iran’s regime intends to have Hashemi Shahroudi flee from justice in Germany

According to information received from sources of the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Iran, the Iranian regime intends to facilitate the departure from Germany of Mahmoud Shahroodi, former head of the judiciary, before a possible arrest warrant is issued against him by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the information, Hashemi Shahroudi and six of his companions are to leave Germany on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from Hamburg to Tehran with Iran Air flight number IR722. The Iranian regime tried to book the tickets without specific names. However, the booked tickets are for Shahroudi and his companions.

Hashemi Shahroudi is currently admitted in the INI hospital which specializes in neurology in Hannover. He is suspected of having committed crimes against humanity.

A number of Iranians, including former political prisoners who were witnesses to crimes committed in prison during Hashemi Shahroudi’s tenure as head of the judiciary, have filed complaints against him.

The Representative Office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in Germany has also filed a complaint with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office against Hashemi Shahroudi in accordance with international criminal procedures within the framework of a crime against humanity.  The complaint calls for issuing a warrant for his arrest.

According to information received from the PMOI within Iran, Hashemi Shahroudi holds a diplomatic passport, number 10002142, issued on August 30, 2017 in Tehran.

The Iranian Resistance draws the attention of all judicial and political authorities as well as human rights institutions to the presence of an individual who has been engaged in committing crimes against humanity, and further calls for appropriate measures to be taken to prevent him from evading justice.  Democratic countries must use all available means to prevent impunity for those who have committed crimes against humanity.
