Maryam Rajavi: Uprising across Iran proves toppling regime “public demand”

Baghdad Post, Dec 29, 2017 – The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) President-elect Maryam Rajavi has commended the efforts of citizens who organized demonstrations on Thursday in Mashhad and other Iranian cities to protest against high prices, unemployment and Mullah regime’s corruption.

Thousands of Iranians chanted anti-regime slogans, including against the regime’s President Hassan Rouhani, in protests in a number of Iranian cities, including the north-eastern city of Mashhad on Thursday.

Rajavi hailed the prominent role of women in the demonstrations, calling on the Iranian people, especially the youth, to support this uprising in Mashahd.

The uprising across Iran has proven again that toppling the Mullah regime is a public demand, she said.

The overwhelming majority of the Iranian people is suffering from poverty, inflation and unemployment, she noted.

The pillars of their regime were based on a sea of blood spilling. They continued their reign by export of terrorism and fundamentalism, destroyed the country’s education, art, and culture, ruined its social ethics and devastated the economy, she added.

The decades of mullahs’ rule have been focused on consolidating power, stripping the Iranian people of resources, while funding their expansion of power throughout the region.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the military might of the regime, has been key to this consolidation of power.

The residents of Mashhad were protesting against the rising cost of living. During the demonstrations, there were angry chants of “Death to the Dictator” and “Death to Rouhani.”
