Dozens of Iraqi groups call for release of 36 Camp Ashraf residents by security forces

NCRI – More than 40 Iraqi political and social groups in a letter to the U.N. Secretary General called for the release of 36 Camp Ashraf residents taken hostage by the Iraqi forces. They also asked the U.S. Government to act to save their lives.
The signatories of the letter which include tribal councils, political and lawyers groups and and non-governmental organizations condemned Prime Minister al-Maliki for preventing the implementation of a court order on the release of the 36 hostages.
In their letter to Ban Ki-Moon, which was sent last week, they described the last July attack on Camp Ashraf as an act in contradiction to the spirit of Iraqi people.
”Forty days have passed [since they were detained] and until now no serious steps have been taken to return the situation to what it was prior to the attack. You know well that many international laws have been violated,” the letter said sent last week.
“What worries us more is that another disaster may take place. The 36 residents are still in Iraqi prison. Despite a judge order to free the 36 camp residents, Mr. Al- Maliki does not allow their release. It is more than forty days that they are on hunger strike. According to the doctors, they are in critical condition and show signs of reaching to point of no return. “
The signatories of the letter said: “we demand your immediate action to accommodate the release of 36 hostages thus saving their lives. We also would like to see an end to the blockade of Ashraf, allowing lawyers and reporters to enter the camp and a UN team dispatched to Ashraf to prevent any future aggression.”
