REACTION TO TRUMP’S UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY SPEECH

UNITED NATIONS (AP) Sep 19 — Reaction from around the world to President Donald Trump’s speech Tuesday to the U.N. General Assembly:
– “We believe (he) expressed a firm and specific stance regarding the important issue of maintaining peace and security now facing the international community and the United Nations.” Park Soo-hyun, spokesman for South Korea’s presidential office.
– “In over 30 years in my experience with the U.N., I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
-“Trump’s ignorant hate speech belongs in medieval times-not the 21st Century UN -unworthy of a reply. Fake empathy for Iranians fools no one.” Tweet from Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
-“Syria, Cuba and Venezuela are (painted as) almost the worst dictatorships in the history of the humankind.” Konstantin Kosachev, head of the foreign affairs committee in the upper house of the Russian parliament. He said the speech was “contradictory,” mixing expressions of respect for nations’ sovereign rights with a “barefaced U.S. pretense to determine who has such rights and who does not.”
