SCD: Assad kills, injures 156 in Ghouta despite ’de-escalation’ deal

Orient Net, JULY 30, 2017– Assad regime shelling have killed or severely injured more than 150 civilians in eastern Ghouta areas since the start of the “de-escalation zones” deal, a Syrian rescue team documented on Friday (July 28).

The Syria Civil Defense (SCD) team in Damascus countryside released a report in which it documented the death of 15 civilians and the wounding of 141 civilian due to the constant Assad, Iranian and Russian shelling on the civilian-populated area which is included within the “de-escalation zones” deal signed by Russia, Turkey and Iran in May in Astana.

Assad allies, Russia and Iran, clearly violated the deal in eastern Ghouta as 57 airstrikes and 39 surface-to-surface missiles were reported launched at the cities and towns of Erbin, Douma, Ein Terma and Zamalek, in addition to Jisreen, al-Marj and al-Shayfonya in eastern Ghouta, the White Helmets rescue team said in its report, pointing out that the total number of violations amounted to 91 during the period from July 22 to 27.

 

No military headquarters in al-Marj

 

In a related context, the local council of al-Marj district in Damascus countryside confirmed in a statement that the areas targeted by Assad air strikes in eastern Ghouta harbour no military headquarters of any sort of armed groups.

The council said in a statement on Friday that the targeted areas contain civilians, including children, with functioning schools, calling on the international community and the guarantors of the “de-escalation zones” deal to take responsibility for the violations, which claimed the lives of children and women.

The council called on the UN Secretary-General to “act immediately” to protect the besieged civilians and end the bloodshed in eastern Ghouta in particular and in Syria in general.

Despite the announcement of Russia and the Assad regime to stop military operations a week ago in eastern Ghouta in accordance with the Russian-Iranian-Turkish deal, but Assad and Iranian militants continued their assaults on areas in western Ghouta,  specifically in Ein Terma and Jubair, and areas near Douma city.
