Gathering of Entrepreneurs of Tehran’s Plasco Building to protest regime’s policies

Iran,14 June 2017— There has been gatherings by the owners of businesses of a major commercial center called Plasco building which was collapsed, due to fire on January, to protest regime’s policies separately in front of the buildings known as the Foundation for the Oppressed, War Veterans and the Prosecutor General in Tehran for two consecutive days.

ISNA news agency, while announcing this event, writes on Monday June 12: Some of the businesses located in undamaged portion of old trade center of Plasco building gathered in protest on Sunday. It has reported, the reason for gathering of these businesses were contradictory statements from Foundation for Oppressed deputy and delays in the reconstruction of the building, despite the promises of the president of the foundation. According to the report of above mentioned news agency, protesters were demanding the extradition of these units to businesses and continuation of business in the Plasco building.

According to one protestor, Mohammad Saeedikia, Foundation chairman had previously promised “the start of operation of deprecated Plasco building June 30th, but already, he is saying end of September”. The demonstrators also demanded for a definite time to reclaim their business units in the Plasco building, after it was renovated. The traders said: quoting deputy Foundation “goodwill task of businesses deposited of Plasco building will be  judicially determined”.

The government affiliated newspaper, “Citizen” has written under the title “Scream of Plasco” about the gathering of 100 Plasco’s traders in front of the Foundation of Oppressed. It states: “All trades of 286 undamaged business units are not satisfied, their units were remained undamaged from slide and explosion, but now, their businesses are unsafe. Thieves are lifting their shops and in the past few weeks, some of their domestic goods, and the lamps are stolen”. According to this paper, after the Plasco’s accident, businesses were promised loans, amounting 300 million, but has not even a single one issued”.

50 years old Plasco building collapsed within a few hours, due to a fire on January 19th, 2017. In this incident, in addition to the deaths of 17 firefighters and five citizens, property of nearly 600 businesses were also damaged.
