SDF demand US heavy weaponry

The Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) demanded from the US to provide them with air cover and heavy weaponry, including tanks to enable them to take control of Raqqa.

The SDF received US armored vehicles for the first time and a promise of new American support, the group spokesman said Tuesday.

“US armored vehicles arrived for the SDF for the first time. This happened after the new US administration came to power,” spokesman Talal Sello told AFP.

The mainly Kurdish fighters are trying to progress towards the ISIS-controlled city of Raqqa and to the Euphrates Dam. They are only 5 km from the city.

The SDF announced on Saturday the start of phase III to capture Raqqa, the de-facto capital of the terrorist organization ISIS.
