Iran: Protest gatherings in Five major cities

Different sectors of the society on Sunday, January 15, 2017, protested in various cities in Iran.

In Arak, central Iran, workers of Hepco Co. protested the unpaid wages of past 5 months taking part in a demonstration in that city. They said the Sunday’s rally was their sixth-day rally demanding to be paid their outstanding wages and benefits.

In Maybod, located in Yazd province, Central Iran, workers from Ehsan Ceramic Company rallied in front of the province’s governor office demanding their unpaid wages and salaries.
This is the second time that Ehsan Ceramic Co. workers are protesting. A few months ago, the same laborers staged a sit-in protest inside the factory for 3 days asking to be paid for the work they had done.

In another city, Sari, northwestern Iran, kindergarten teachers staged a rally in front of the education ministry office in the province capital. This protest was not the first and the last. They had demanded to be officially hired

In Sefid-dash, in the “CharMahal&Bakhtiari” Province, western Iran, employees of the steel company, Energy-Gostar demonstrated for the second consecutive day in the row to protest the unjust firing of a number of workers and also not being paid for past two months.
The workers who had been rallying for the second day said “the company’s excuse is not receiving the raw material, so they had to let a number of workers go. This was unjust since the workers were not even paid their previous salaries.

In Tabriz, northwestern Iran, elementary student parents from Saeb elementary School gathered on Saturday, Jan. 14, protesting teacher-less classes. They said their children go to the classes but there are no teachers for past two months.
One of the teachers had an accident two months ago and has been in bed for past couple of months, but the school has not provided a substitute, saying they don’t have a teacher and have to wait until their original teacher is back in the class.
