Iranian actress, Azar Mehdi Gholi-Khani, widely known as “Thuraya Hekmat”, passed away last Friday, April 8 at the age of 62. She had lived in poverty in her final years.
Hekmat suffered a brain stroke on Monday, April 4 and went into coma. The reason behind her death has been described as convulsion and blood clots in her brain.
This artist was only active for a decade and the last film she played in was “A Swan’s Tune”, made back in the year 2000.
In an interview with the state ISNA news agency back in August 2014 she said she could not make ends meet to pay for her mortgage, adding she will be living in a tent soon afterwards.
She explained she could not even pay for her dentistry bills!
In this interview Hekmat also said she had suggested to the regime’s Ministry of Culture and Guidance to pre-purchase her grave alongside other artists so she could sell it for some money while she was still alive.
