Iran: 6500 protest activities in just one year

The Iranian economy heavily depending on the oil revenue has not been brought back from deep recession despite the nuclear agreement with the West late last year. The regime’s president, Hassan Rouhani had promised that the nuclear deal would bring much needed foreign investments that could improve the economy, create jobs and therefore put bread on the everyday family’s table.
But his inability to fulfill his promises and commitments has resulted in an increase in number and size of protest rallies and strikes all around the country.
There were 7 protests and strike rallies on Monday, April 11, in just three provinces of Kurdistan, Kermanshah and Ilam out of more than 30 province of Iran. This small figure shows how frustrated the Iranian people have become of this government.

 

Protest rally in the Kurdish city of Kamiyaran:

A group of Shahoo Co. workers gathered on Monday, April 11 in front of the company in the city to demand their unpaid salaries for past two months and outstanding credit for 4-month overtime work. Shahoo is a stonecutting company and gravel manufacturing firm.

 

Workers’ strike in the city of Saggez, western Iran:

A group of AssoPlast Co. workers in the Kurdish city of Saggez, western Iran staged a protest rally on Monday, April 11, in front of the company demanding their unpaid benefits and job experience bonuses.
AssoPlast Company deals with plastics and chemicals which is considered hazardous to the employees’ health.

 

Protests in Ilam Province:

A number of city hall employees in Ilam city in the province rallied on Monday, April 11, 2016 to protest unpaid wages and salaries for past five months. The rally took place in front of the City Hall located in the center of the city which attracted many attentions.
In another demonstration by the employees of state television in the same city a day before on Sunday, dozens of the station employees protested outstanding wages for past five months. This rally took place in Beheshti Ave. one of the crowded streets of the city.

 

Qazal Co. workers’ protest in Kermanshah

The city of Ravansar in Kermanshah province was also a scene of protest rally today, Monday, April 11th. Employees of Qazal Cookies Company in Ravansar were protesting their unpaid insurance payments for the entire 2015. They said the rally would continue as long as the premium is not paid.

 

Another protest in Kurdistan

This time the rally took place in the city of Qorveh on Monday, April 11, 2016 where dozens of workers from Zagros Steel Company rallied to protest job insecurity. They said the company management backed by the regime elements have resorted to a verity of excuses for past two years to ignore their demands of settle their job status. Their complaints to the authorities including a rally in front of the parliament has failed to produce any result.
 

Protest rally in the Kurdish city of Sanandaj

Workers of West Seed Production Company demonstrated on Sunday, April 10th to protest unpaid wages and job experience bonuses for past 3 months. The protest rally took place inside the company premises.

These are only a small fraction of the protest activities and demonstrations in Iran. According to Maryam Rajavi the Iranian Resistance President-elect, various social strata in Iran demand regime change and the removal of the clerical regime. They showed this desire in 6500 protests over the past year alone.
Iran’s economy will not nurture unless the corrupt and incompetent regime of the mullahs is replaced with a democratic, pluralistic and competent system that can provide a positive growth and services to the society.
