Iranians living in France celebrated the coming of the New Year called Nowrouz in Persian. They held ceremonies to embrace the changing of the season which traditionally is seen as leaving behind the cold and the bitterness of the winter and welcome the life and blossom of the spring.
In this regard members of the Iranian community as well as their French supporters spent a day on Sunday in Taverny, north of Paris Persian to mark the New Year celebrations.
The renowned Iranian singer Marjan performed at the ’Nowrouz’ ceremony as did renowned Iranian musician Hamidreza Taherzadeh.
Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) at the event vowed to redouble their efforts in the Iranian calendar year 1395 to overthrow the mullahs’ regime and bring democracy, freedom and human rights to Iran.
’Amu Nowrouz,’ the Iranian version of Santa Claus, made an appearance at the event.
Displays and artifacts were also put up about ancient Persian culture and traditions.
There was also a traditional Haft-Sin table, found in Iranian homes at the time of Nowrouz.
Haft-Sin or the seven ’S’s is a major tradition of Nowrouz. The Haft-Sin table includes seven specific items starting with the letter ’S’ (or Sin in the Persian alphabet). The items symbolically correspond to seven creations and holy immortals protecting them. The Haft Sin has evolved over time, but has kept its symbolism.
