A Tehran appeals’ court has upheld a one year jail sentence for trade unionist Reza Shahabi, a member of the Tehran Bus Company Syndicate executive board.
Mr. Shahabi has been condemned in regards to the March 2014 protest staged by prisoners of ward 350 in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, according to the Tehran Bus Company Syndicate website.
This labor activist has in the past few years been detained many times and placed behind bars due to this syndicate’s activities. He had prior to this in February 2012been condemned to six years behind bars, a five year ban from any syndicate activities and a fine of 70 million rials (around $2,000).
In the meantime, Mr. Shahabi, in medical leave after undergoing two surgeries, was summoned by the Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS/VEVAK) on February 7 and informed of a new case opened against him for “provoking workers and disrupting public order”, according to the Tehran Bus Company Syndicate.
