Sen. Reid: Congress must stay vigilant on Iran

The Hill, 19 JAN 2016 – Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday warned that Congress’ work on Iran nuclear agreement isn’t over.

“Congress must accept the critical role we play in providing a vigorous oversight of the Iran agreement and Iran’s compliance with the agreement, and monitoring Iran’s actions in the region,” Reid said from the Senate floor.

Senator Reid added that he looks “forward to working with my colleagues to keep Iran accountable” and to protect U.S. national security.

Mr. Reid was one of 42 Senate Democrats to support the Iran nuclear deal, which was reached last year.

Democrats, including Senator Reid urged the administration to remain tough on Iran over a myriad of separate issues including the missile program and support for terror groups.

Mr. Reid doubled down on that Tuesday, saying he remains “concerned” about Iran’s human rights record and adding that the administration is at the “beginning of a critical period” on the nuclear agreement.
