Mass execution of prisoners in Iran

Citing sources in Iran, a report says 10 prisoners were hanged in Karaj, west of Tehran and in the city of Urumia, northwest of the country. The sentences were carried out on  Tuesday and Wednesday, January 12-13th.
Among the ten executed prisoners, four were sentenced to death for drug-related charges and six were sentenced to death under the mullahs’ reactionary law of “Qisas” (retaliation law).
They are part of a terror campaign to divert attention from the failures of the mullahs in their confrontation with the Arab countries, which led to the severing of diplomatic relations by several of these countries with the Iranian regime.
International bodies have repeatedly expressed concerns about unfair trials in Iran leading to these executions, especially because many of the accused are even deprived of the right to have access to a lawyer.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed in his report of September 2015 that death sentences in Iran against alleged drug traffickers constitute a violation of the International Convention on Civil Rights and policies.
The human rights situation has been deteriorating rapidly in Iran. More than 2,000 individuals have been executed during Hassan Rouhani’s tenure as President of the regime. This is the highest rate of executions in the past 25 years, and it reflects an increase over figures that had already secured Iran’s place as the nation with the most executions per capita.
On December 17, 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution strongly condemning the brutal and systematic violation of human rights in Iran, in particular the mass and arbitrary executions, increasing violence and discrimination against women and ethnic and religious minorities.
Following the adoption of the 62nd UN resolution censuring human rights abuses in Iran, the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect Maryam Rajavi called on the UN Security Council to hold the leaders of the clerical regime accountable and prosecute them for crimes against humanity. She underlined that this is a necessary step towards respecting the international community’s vote that condemned the systematic and flagrant violations of human rights in Iran.
