Iraq: nationwide demos against corruption; Diwaniya protesters demand Maliki’s prosecution

Nationwide demonstrations in Iraq continued on Friday in Baghdad and nine other provinces including Meisan, Diwaniya, Babel, Karbala, Najaf, Waset, Ziqar, al-Mothana and Basra under the name of “We condemn lack of reforms implementation”, al-Baghdadiya TV reported.
Demonstrators in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square and various other provinces demanded reforms and accountability of corrupt individuals and the release of civil activist Jalal Shahmani.
Demonstrators in Meisan launched a major protest against corrupt individuals demanding reforms and the removal of judiciary chief Mid’hat Mahmoud from his post.
In Diwaniya and Babel protesters condemned the lack of reform implementation and demanded accountability of corrupt figures.
The massive rally in Karbala saw protesters chanting against corruption and demanding the prosecution of thieves.
Al-Mada TV reported on the Diwaniya demo saying: This demonstration had one main demand, being the prosecution of Nouri Maliki.
Protesters in Najaf demanded reforms in a true manner and corrupt individual and thieves to be placed before justice. Demonstrators in Waset and Ziqar, al-Mothana and the people of Basra also called for the prosecution and accountability of corrupt figures and thieves of public property. They were seen holding major rallies on Friday.
