Opposition rejects UN roadmap to end Syria civil war

The West-supported Syrian opposition, along with armed groups opposing the Assad regime have expressed their opposition to the United Nations roadmap on ending the civil war in Syria.
This opposition came one day after the Assad regime announced its readiness to take part in this initiative.
UN Special Representative for Syria Stefan De Mistura had in last July presented an initiative based on which four UN-led working groups would be established to discuss how to implement a plan to reach peace in Syria.
Reuters reported the opposition statement reads, “We believe the working groups with their vague instructions are nothing but paving the path for rebuilding the Assad regime.”
“The roadmap has neglected most UN resolutions on Syria, including the resolution on the necessity to destroy all chemical weapons and providing humanitarian aid to the people,” the statement adds.
The opposition statement reads that forming a transition delegation for a full transfer of power without any presence of Bashar Assad and known figures of his regime is the sole solution to end the Syria crisis.
