Iran: political prisoner on hunger strike transferred to Birjand jail

Political prisoner Mohammad Amin Abdullahi exiled to Tabas prison two years ago, was transferred to Birjand prison in northwest Iran. This transfer took place on Monday, September 28, on the second day of his hunger strike.
Abdullahi said last week in a telephone interview: “While Tabas prison officials had agreed with my leave late September, they suddenly rejected my request in an unexpected move.”
“If no changes are made until the end of Saturday, I will go on hunger strike starting Sunday, September 27.”
A cellmate had said, “Prison authorities resorted to force and threats in transferring Mohammad Amin from Tabas to Birjand Central Prison at 4 in the morning.”
Mohammad Abdullahi, the brother of this political prisoner, is on death row on “moharebe” (enmity against God) charges, and is currently being held in Urumieh Central Prison, northwest Iran.
Mohammad Amin Abdullah was arrested in the fall of 2005 and after spending 15 months in limbo behind bars he was convicted of “moharebe” through effective and armed cooperation with an opposition party, and propaganda against the regime. In court he was sentenced to a total of 18 years behind bars and exiled to Tabas prison.
