Iran: Political prisoner, shahrokh Zamani died in his prison cell in Gohardasht Prison

Reports from inside Gohardasht Prison, Karaj, northwest of Tehran indicates that Mr. Shahrokh Zamani, a political prisoner and a workers’ right activist has fallen to a suspicious death in his prison cell in early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015.
His friends and other cellmates approached him to wake him up at 5am Sunday, but found him dead with his mouth full of blood and a dark bruise on his head.
Iranian Resistance has expressed deep sorrow and grief for the loss of this steadfast and brave political prisoner and expressing condolence to his family and friends, especially his cellmate in Gohardasht Prison. The Iranian Resistance also calls for an international investigating in to his suspicious death who had spent many years in prison for defending workers’ right.



 


Shahraokh was a house painter from Tabriz, a major city northwest of Iran. He was active in forming and participating in workers rallies and independent workers’ committees.
He was arrested in June 2011 for his involvement and activities in workers’ protests and was sent to Ghezelhesar prison in Karaj, northwest of Tehran in the following year. He was later transferred to Ghohardasht and endured severe tortures and harassments.
In his last message sent out of the prison last week, Shahrokh called on Iranian workers to protest and join teachers and nurses in their struggle and protests.
The Workers’ Association in Iran has definitely lost a brave and devoted guardian and defender.
