Iran job market: 1 woman for every 5.31 men

The state-run IRNA issued a report referring to established discrimination against women in the job market and employment in Iran.
“The country’s job market is in bad conditions as job opportunities are not available and unemployment is high. These conditions are much worse for women. Right now there is just 1 woman for every 5.31 men in the job market,” the report reads.

“A statistics review shows that in the spring of 2015 the gender ratio amongst the employed workers in agriculture was 7.3 men for every woman; in industry 6.7 men for every woman; in services, 5.03 men for every woman. The unemployment ratio shows that for every 2.2 men there is 1 women unemployed and looking for work. As the statistics show the population of women in search of work is close to the number of unemployed men, lowering from being 5 to 7 times more amongst employed people, to being just 2.2 people today.
“Statistics from 1997 to 2015 show the percentage of women in the work force has ranged between 9.9 to 13.3 percent.

“Furthermore, unemployment amongst women during these mentioned periods has altered between 14.9 to 19.2 percent. Economic experts believe women are the first victims of this mayhem in the job market.” (IRNA news agency – September 9, 2015)
