Iran: families, relatives of executed Kurdish political prisoner protest hanging

From the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 26th the family and relatives of Kurdish political prisoner Behruz Alkhani, executed by Iranian authorities today, rallied outside Urumieh Central Prison (northwestern Iran). A large number of people from the village where Alkhani grew up also took part in this rally.
No Iranian regime official has responded to the protesters.
Alkhani’s family says he was in very high spirits on Tuesday before his execution, standing firm on his positions against the mullahs’ regime.
The Iranian Resistance had called on the United States, the EU and its member states, as well as the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights and human rights institutions worldwide, to take urgent action to prevent this execution, strongly condemning the international community’s silence, especially the European Union, regarding the escalating trend of executions in Iran.
After enduring six years of imprisonment and torture, this Kurdish political prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement in Urumieh Central Prison on Tuesday, August 25th in preparation for his execution.
Absent a firm stance regarding these criminal executions, visits by the EU High Representative and senior officials and foreign ministers of EU member states practically fuels Iran’s rampage of execution, terror and suppression of the ruling religious fascism. A regime that has executed over 2,000 during Rouhani’s tenure alone should have its leaders be brought to justice.
Amnesty International issued a statement on August 25 declaring: “The authorities have already carried out 700 executions in Iran so far this year. Allowing Behrouz Alkhani’s death sentence to be implemented will only leave them with more blood on their hands.”
