Al Arabiya: al-Abadi’s reforms for government change after massive Iraqi rallies

In a significant turn of events Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced sweeping reforms, including abolishing the posts of the vice presidents. Prime Minister al-Abadi issued a statement today announcing past and present corruption files, and the prosecution of corrupt individuals, will be reopened.
Al-Abadi’s plans to sack senior posts include independent delegations, lawyers, ministers and advisors that are rationed based on party and secular guidelines. Furthermore, the number of security guards for all officials across the country will be decreased.
Al-Abadi’s reform plans are announced at a time when massive rallies are continuing in Iraq and demonstrators are demanding the government to fight corruption and provide necessary services to the people.
