State Dept. calls on Iran to suspend death sentence for political prisoner Mohammad Ali Taheri

The US State Department issued a statement on Friday, August 7th condemning the death sentence issued by Iran for political prisoner Mohammad Ali Taheri. The State Dept. went on to express major concerns about prison sentences issued for a number of his followers under very vague allegations.
Freedom of religion and expression are recognized fundamental universal human rights principles under International Law, and the citizens of each country must enjoy such rights, the statement reads. Mohammad Ali Taheri was sentenced to death for practicing his own rights of freedom of expression and religion. Issuing a death sentence for Iranian nationals for practicing their fundamental rights is a sign of gross human rights violations by the Iranian regime.
