Poll: Nearly six in 10 Americans oppose Iran deal

Americans are still not be sold on the Iran nuclear deal.
Nearly six in 10 American voters, 58 percent, disapprove of the recently reached nuclear pact, while 30 percent approve, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
Republicans strongly oppose the deal, which is considered a signature achievement of President Obama, 86 percent to 3 percent. Democrats support the foreign policy move, 52 percent to 32 percent.
“There’s not a lot of love for the proposed nuclear deal with Iran. Only a bare majority of Democrats support the pact,” Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director Tim Malloy said in a statement.
A majority of Americans (56 percent) also disapprove of how Obama is handling the Iran situation, compared to just 35 percent who approve.
Congress is expected to review the deal reached by Iran and five nations; however, lawmakers aren’t exactly loved either. Three-fourths (75 percent) disapprove of Republicans in Congress, while Democratic lawmakers are disapproved of by 63 percent of Americans.
“These ratings for Republicans and Democrats in Congress have to sting even the thick skins of Capitol Hill,” Malloy said.
The deal reached early last month between Iran, the U.S., the U.K., China, Germany and France gives Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbing its nuclear program.
“The article in the Washington Post is nothing but a political hit job of the very worst kind.”
The poll of roughly 1,600 registered voters nationwide was conducted from July 23-28 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
