Over 500 inmates on hunger strike in Greater Tehran Central Prison

Over 500 inmates of Greater Tehran Central Prison continued their hunger strike on Friday, July 31st.
These inmates have recently been transferred to phase 4 of this facility and launched their hunger strike on Thursday night protesting inhumane conditions.
Authorities in this prison force the prisoners into the courtyard from 9 am to 1 pm under the hot sun. Hygiene conditions are reported as atrocious and water and gas is cut off during many hours of the day. The prisoners are not allowed to use any of the cooling systems. Sick prisoners, especially those with special illnesses, are deprived of any medical care. Over half of these prisoners have no place to sleep and are currently lying on the ground in the hallways and next to the restrooms.
