Syrian National Coalition President Khaled Khoja called on NATO member states to support the plan to establish a “safe zone” in northern Syria, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday.
“This can be a guarantee for protecting Syrian civilians in the face of bombings by the Assad regime and also against measures carried out by ISIS,” he added.
AP reported Turkish and American officials are discussing establishing a safe zone on the Syria-Turkey border. This area must be cleansed of any ISIS forces and turned into a safe zone for Syrian refugees.
“This can be a significant step forward,” Khoja said.
