A shooting rampage has been reported on Thursday evening taking place in a movie theater in the city of Lafayette near the city of New Orleans in the state of Louisiana. Two people have been reported killed and the shooter, a 58-year old white male, killed himself afterwards. Eyewitnesses said many people were running as the shooter was opening fire indiscriminately.
The police detonated the vehicle belonging to the shooter due to a suspicious package. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal visited the hospital where the wounded were receiving treatment and one teacher was released from the hospital during this visit.
Police is taking precaution in entering the cinema and searching the surrounding area of the crime scene. There are also concerns about the gunman’s residence being booby trapped and the police are continuing their investigation into this horrific incident. The police believe the shooter was in 1 of the 16 theaters in the building before starting the shooting rampage. A few hundred law enforcement officers are present at the scene and continuing their work.
