Report: punishment for breaking fast in Iran – jail time & lashes!

In the month of Ramadan this year the police and judiciary officials in cities across Iran have been taking serious measures. The number of group arrests and issuing judiciary rulings in all provinces are very significant.
Yazdi, head of the Assembly of Experts, called on the state security forces last week to not just issue warnings to those who break fasting and take “physical action” when needed.
Firm action against those not fasting in the month of Ramadan has been a long-standing demand for state officials in Iran.
The result has been the plan of “Confronting Those Not Fasting”, and each year such measures are placed into the State Security Forces’ agenda. The judiciary follows up on these cases more urgently than others.
This year in the first 5 days of the Ramadan 72 young men and women were arrested in the city of Hamedan. Afterwards, on June 22 reports indicated the arrest of 92 young men and women in a coffee shop at Hotel Shahriar in Tabriz.
On the 13th day of Ramadan the deputy public prosecutor in Shiraz reported until that day 500 “different” Shirazi residents were confronted for “breaking the norms and not fasting”.
Arrest warrants were issued for 480 individuals in a matter of 24 hours, according to this judiciary official.
