Iran: Execution of Mansour Arvand, Kurdish political prisoner, wrestler, sports trainer

The Iranian Resistance offers its condolences to the family, friends and Kurdish people, especially the people of Mahabad, for the criminal execution of Kurdish political prisoner Mansour Arvan, a 39 year old wrestler and coach at Miandoab Prison. It further calls on all compatriots, particularly the youth, to protest these arbitrary executions and to rush to support and to express solidarity with the families of those executed and the political prisoners.
The Iranian Resistance also calls on the international community to unequivocally condemn the escalating trend of executions, particularly the execution of political prisoners. Instead of turning a blind eye to the atrocities of this regime under the pretext of nuclear negotiations and “moderating” the criminal mullahs, the file of Iranian regime’s leaders needs to be forwarded to the United Nations Security Council for them to face justice for crimes against humanity.
Mansour Arvand who was a popular sportsman from Mahabad was arrested in June 2011. He was condemned to death for “Moharebeh” [enmity with God] and “propaganda against the system and membership of Kurdish Democratic Party” by regime’s iniquitous courts while he was deprived of choosing a lawyer. During the four years of his imprisonment in various prisons, including the intelligence prison of Mahabad and the Evin Prison, he underwent the most severe tortures and was suffering from various illnesses because of that, including renal infection. He was executed despite the fact that he had been told that his sentence had been commuted to life in prison.
Mansour Arvand was among the Kurdish political prisoners who in November 20, 2014 staged a hunger strike at Urmia Central Prison in protest to attempts by the mullahs’ intelligence to dissolve the political prisoners’ ward and the transfer of political prisoners to the ordinary prisoners’ ward and ratcheting up pressures against the prisoners’ families. This hunger strike lasted over a month.
