Camp Liberty: For the third week, maintenance items for camp’s infrastructure are not allowed into the camp

On Sunday, 31 May 2015, once again and by the orders of the Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Ashraf, the Iraqi forces obstructed entry of vehicles carrying essential items for the maintenance and repair of water purification system and the electric generators, as well as other items for the camp’s infrastructure. This obstruction seriously disrupts water and electricity, as well as other vital facilities of Camp Liberty. Given the hot season, soon the residents would face a critical condition. UNAMI had been informed in advance of the arrival of these items that have been purchased by the residents.
Some of the items barred from entering are: water pipe connections, small water tanks, water pump for evaporative-water-cooler, electric generator parts and batteries, electricity sockets, vehicle fuel pump, insecticide, and kerosene stove.
This antihuman siege and obstructing entry of rudimentary necessities for the residents is a blatant violation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United Nations and the Government of Iraq on 25 December 2011, as well as many international covenants, that deserve legal prosecution.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government that have repeatedly and in writing made commitments to the wellbeing and security of Camp Liberty residents to adopt urgent actions to end this antihuman blockade.
