Chile; Volcano erupts after 40 years

The Calbuco volcano in the south of Chile is been erupting the first time it is happened in more than 40 years. 1500 local residents have been evacuated. This is taking place in the tourist region of Los Lagos. There is a thick cloud of ash and smoke several kilometers high in to the sky. There had been no sign that a volcano is about to erupt.
The government was forced to act quickly.

 

 

Chilean Interior Minister, Rodringo Penailillo said in a news conference that the area of evacuation is going to increase from 10 kilometers radius to 20 kilometers.

 

 

 

Hundreds of people live within the shadow of the volcano. Calbuco is one of the active volcanoes in chili. it had erupted in 1961 and again in 1972. The country’s president, Michelle Bachelet is due to fly to the area to assess its impact.
