Iran: 70 cities, 27 provinces are today the scene of nationwide teachers demonstration

The reports are pouring in from across the country where teachers are taking to the streets to answer the nationwide teachers’ protest call. The number of cities where the protests are happening has grown to over 70 in 27 provinces.
Thousands of frustrated teachers have been staging protest act in front of the Ministry of Education in their own cities braving the regime’s intimidations and security threat of repercussions.
These cities include: Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, Hamadan, Sanandaj, Meshkin-Shahr, Ilam, Urumia, Sari, Ahar, Kermanshah, Nahavand, Kerman, Ahwaz, Birjand, Abhar, Abadan, Ardebil, Tabriz, Saveh, Bojnourd, Dezful, Boroujerd, Zahedan, Qazvin, Zanjan, West Islam-abad, Kashan, Marivan, Javanrood, Paveh, Karaj, Boucher, Piranshahr, Isfahan, Qorveh and dozens of other cities.


 




In Tehran, the country’s capital demonstration was going on at two sites, one was in front of the parliament and the second was outside the Ministry of Education.
Other cities including: Rasht, Khorram-abad, Yazd, Shahrood, Darab, Qum, Bandar-Abbas, Kamiaran, Sabzevar, Babak, Rafsanjan, Delijan, Khodabandeh-Zanjan and Koohdasht were also the scene of sit-ins and protest acts.


 




Teachers are carrying placards and posters demanding the freedom of their apprehended colleagues who have been arrested for protesting. They also condemned government repressive policies in schools and demanding better living conditions. Some banners had written slogans demanding their unpaid salaries.


 




Some of the slogans on the banners read: “We demand the freedom of imprisoned teachers”, “Teachers must rise to obtain their legitimate rights”, “Teachers are condemning discrimination”, “Teachers’ salaries are one third of the poverty line” and “Our pain is due to discrimination.”
