Tehran: ’Vitana’ Cookie Co. workers on strike

Workers at ’Vitana’ Cookie Co. went on strike and staged a rally outside the factory in Tehran on Sunday Feb. 22nd to demand the return of their fellow workers who have been fired just weeks before the Iranian New Year.
The Company management has not allowed those workers to return to the factory by assigning security guards at the entrance gate. The laid off workers say the reason behind their firing from their jobs was their objections to the company management demand for extra working hours without pay.
The company had increase the number of machines from 3 units to 5 units after firing older employees and asking the newer ones to cover their place, but without increase in their salary or overtime pays. This prompted the new employees to protest and subsequent discharge from the company.
The striking workers demand that the new employees who have been discharged due to protest to be returned to their work and paid overtime.
