Iran: call to save life of Kurd political prisoner Mansour Arvand

Iranian Resistance calls on human rights organizations for effective action to see to demands made by hunger striking inmates in Orumieh prison and other political prisoners in Iranian regime’s jails
On Saturday, November 29, marking the 10th day of a hunger strike launched by 29 Kurd political prisoners in Orumieh Central Prison, the regime’s authorities suddenly transferred  the political prisoner Mansour Arvand to Mahabad Prison. Facing ‘moharebeh’ (enmity against God) charges, his death sentence has been recently upheld by the mullahs’ Supreme Court and  he is facing the threat of execution.
Afterwards, Special Guard agents equipped with batons and electric shockers encircled the political ward in Orumieh Central Prison in fear of protests by Mansour Arvand cellmates and to intimidate the inmates.
Moreover, to impose pressure and completely humiliate the inmates, prison authorities forced them to take off all their clothing and go through unusual inspections before family visits.
29 Kurd political prisoners in ward 12 of Orumieh Central Prison have been on hunger strike since November 20 protesting the transfer of non-political prisoners to the ward of political prisoners and sending political prisoners to the ward of dangerous criminals, and also imposing pressures on the inmates and their families. This includes Ali Afshari who is currently in dire conditions after being deprived of medical care for various illnesses.
To prevent news of the hunger strike from leaking outside, prison authorities cut off all telephone lines of this facility since noon of Saturday. The torturers threatened the hunger striking inmates if they continue their protests even more non-political prisoners will be transferred to their ward.
Furthermore, all political prisoners in Gohardasht Prison and a number of political prisoners in Sanandaj, Zahedan and Bandar Lengeh prisons have announced their support for the hunger strike of Orumieh’s political prisoners.
The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights organizations to take effective action to save the life of Kurd political prisoners Mansour Arvand and see to the demands of the striking inmates and also other political prisoners held in the Iranian regime’s dungeons.
