Italian lawmakers protest outside Iranian regime embassy

A group of Italian lawmakers held a protest outside the Iranian regime embassy in Rome to express outrage at the execution of the young Iranian woman Reyhaneh Jababri.
The delegation consists of, among others, Roberta Agostini, Sofia Amoddio, Lorenza Bonaccorsi, Rosa Calipari, Elena Carnevali, Anna Maria Carloni, Susanna Cenni, Maria Chiara Gadda Daniela Gasparini, Anna Jacob, Fabrizia Giuliani, Clare Gribaudo, Vanna Iori, Pia Elda Locatelli, Barbara Pollastrini, Anna Rossomando, Gaea Schiro ’, Marietta Tide, Valeria Valente and Sandra Paw, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
The world was outraged by the execution of 26-year-old Reyhaneh Jabbari – a would-be victim of sexual assault by an intelligence official.
Despite an international campaign calling for her release, Reyhaneh was hanged at dawn on Saturday Oct. 25 in Tehran’s Gohardasht prison after seven years of imprisonment, coupled with the psychological and physical torture of her and her family.
The Italian lawmaker said in their statement: “We are outraged by the killing of Reyhaneh Jabbari”, ASCA reported on Saturday.
The government of Hassan Rouhani in Tehran, on Wednesday, endorsed the brutal execution of Reyhaneh and rejected worldwide condemnation of her hanging as “meddling in a judicial case.”
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, called for an independent international probe into Reyhaneh Jabbari’s execution as an example of arbitrary, extrajudicial and criminal death sentences that have taken on added dimensions since Rouhani’s tenure.
All evidence indicates that the criminal execution of Ms. Rayhaneh Jabbari, after seven and a half years of incarceration and torture and despite widespread protests and international calls, was politically motivated and that this execution was unlawful even in the framework of mullahs’ medieval laws.
Amnesty International condemned her execution and declared that “the execution of Iranian Reyhaneh Jabbari who was convicted after a deeply flawed investigation and trial is an affront to justice… This is another bloody stain on Iran’s human rights record”.
