Mayor Jean-Pierre Béquet addressed the Paris conference explaining the events of the June 17th 2003 where some 1300 French police raided the city of Auvers-sur-Oise. Mr. Bequet said "they attacked my city of 7,000 residents. I told reporters how could it be that so many terrorists live in this city for more than 20 years with police protection without anybody realizing that? But all of us residents of Auvers-sur-Oise knew that the NCRI and the Mojahedin are advocates of freedom who are fighting a despotic regime in Iran."
"That security operation on that day was in fact a politico-propaganda campaign which I didn’t realize at that time. But I had a feeling that there has to be collaboration behind the scene, since I knew the PMOI for many years very closely. I was not the only person in Auvers-sur-Oise who knew and respected the Iranian Resistance, residents of this city also knew them and express solidarity with them."
Of course it took us 11 years to reach this wonderful decision by the French court, but it also has its bitter taste too, because we lost 11 years of our struggle for freedom for Iran," Jean-Pierre Béquet added.
The mayor concluded that our Iranian friends are always in our hearts and will remain in our hearts.
