Iran ranked 130th among 139 countries in gender division

University professor Azar Mansouri referred to a report issued by the World Economic Forum regarding gender division in 2013, saying, “In this report that evaluated gender division Iran ranked 130th among 139 countries across the globe.”
She described the Iranian women’s ranking in these evaluations back in 2010 as 123rd among 139 countries, and 125th in 2011, 127th in 2012 and now 130th in 2013.
“Women’s participation in the fields of economy and education are two of the factors evaluated in this report. Iran is 98th in the world in women’s education and 87th regarding women’s power and 129th on participation in political affairs,” she added.
“With one simple look at this report one can see that we have been successful in cases such as education and hygiene where women themselves have had a role in and Iran has an acceptable ranking, and there is no relativity between the indexes of this report in the fields of education-hygiene and political participation… based on the official statistics released in 2012, amongst the 24 million employed individuals in Iran only 5 million were women,” she stressed.
Another speaker at this meeting was Elahe Kolaie who said, “The ability, efforts and skills of human beings must be taken into account as the main subject, not their gender. In recent years we have witnessed a huge wave of petrifaction to force women to stay in their homes. Some people think if they prevent women from receiving education, the country’s population will actually grow. This is while statistics show many young women don’t have conditions ready to get married and this problem has roots in economics.” (State-run ILNA news agency – September 1, 2014)
