UAE paper urges release of reporter held in Iran

AP, Dubai, UAE, 7 August, 2014 — The editor of the Emirati newspaper that employs an Iranian journalist detained along with her husband in Tehran last month has expressed hope that she will be released soon.
Yeganeh Salehi was working as a correspondent for the Abu Dhabi-based daily The National when she was detained alongside her husband, Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, and two photojournalists who have not been identified.
The National`s editor-in-chief, Mohammed al-Otaiba, said in a front-page article Thursday that the paper does not believe Salehi’s reports could be construed as anti-Iranian and did not deal with sensitive security matters.
He expressed hope that she is being treated well and that she would be released soon.
Iranian officials have not commented publicly on the reasons for the arrests or what charges the detainees might face.
