Minority children deprived of government schools in Iran

According to media reports it has been years since the Khavari ethnic group children in Iran have been deprived of public education due to not having birth certificates.
“We migrated here from Iraq many years ago. Officials first gave us displaced persons ID cards. However, they continuously changed our identification status. Our children have been deprived of public education for years, and only those families who are very poor are allowed to register their children in non-profit schools,” a source said.

“We have time and again held peaceful rallies but officials have only detained our representatives and to this day many of them are in prison,” he added.
