Iraq: over 100 Sarkhi supporters burned by Maliki forces

According to news agencies, on 1 July 2014 forces linked to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki attacked the office of a senior Shiite religious leader in the holy city of Karbala with helicopters and all kinds of weapons, and then attacked the offices of this Shiite religious leader in other provinces in southern Iraq. During these attacks around 100 people were killed and over 1,000 were arrested. The reason behind this attack was this religious leader’s opposition with Nouri Maliki’s policies and the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq. In the course of these widespread attacks Maliki forces committed gruesome crimes by executing those arrested in the same location in mass murders, setting their bodies ablaze and dragging some of the bodies onto the streets by their vehicles.
Following these crimes Manhad al-Ataie, director of this religious leader’s office, along with Engineer Ghasem al-Zamoli, deputy Babel Province Governor, fled to Iraqi Kurdistan regions and held a press conference exposing Maliki forces’ crimes. These revelations briefly are stated below:

Interview with Mahand al-Ataie, director of public relations affairs of the office of Shiite religious leader Ayatollah Mahmoud al-Sarkhi:

“The government in Karbala and central government are proud of murdering and massacring the innocent and injured. (Over 100 injured people were placed in Seyed al-Sarkhi’s home and then set ablaze, and the home was destroyed on them. Allah Akbar, and then they took the bodies out and pull them onto roads and alleys. They also took pictures and even kicked and beat the dead bodies. Over 20 children were arrested. We have official reports. Right now there are over 20 children in detention. Over 1,000 followers of Seyed Sarkhi al-Hassani have been detained.

“… Many forces came; 2,500 forces of Karbala, the Karbala Operational Command, and besieging Seyed al-Hassani’s home… over 100 were killed in Karbala. What was their crime?… I personally called security commanders and asked what is the reason for this attack? Have they killed any of your people? … military forces came and said why has Seyed al-Hassani issued a fatwa saying we should go and fight our Sunni brothers…because this is a sectarian measure and an indiscriminate action out of hatred… from Baghdad to Basra many people were influenced by Seyed al-Hassani’s words that we must not fight our families and dear ones of the Sunnis… over 100 people were injured in Seyed al-Sarkhi’s home and they set them on fire and destroyed the house on them, and then they pulled out the bodies into the streets and alleys. They also took pictures and video footages and even kicking the dead bodies… we have official reports. Right now there are over 20 children that are detained. Over 1,000 of Seyed al-Hassani’s followers, from Baghdad to Basra, were arrested. In this attack 13 individuals with doctorate and master’s degrees, including physicians and engineers, were all killed… their property plundered, computers and other items stolen. Even women were beaten, children arrested, there are dozens of bodies, they kill the wounded and set them ablaze… there was one person injured and his name is Abu Salah. He was a very devoted religious man and fasting… Abu Salah was injured, they killed him and burnt him and pulled on the ground… we are warning the government to release all those arrested. Right now the bodies are in the hospitals and their families are not allowed to receive the bodies…”
