Plans to confront the crisis by reiterating on expansion of enrichment capacity and an agenda contrary to U.S. interests
Mullahs’ regime Supreme Leader Khamenei, in a speech at the presence of clerical regime’s leaders, including Rouhani, Rafsanjani and Ali and Sadeq Larijani, stressed on the imperative to preserve and expand regime’s nuclear capacities and said: “They are planning to restrict enrichment to 10,000 SWU (Separative Work Unit) which is the yield of around 10,000 old-type centrifuges, while the definite need of the country is 190,000 SWU.”
Counting on the Western countries’ policy of appeasement he added, The other side is taking a maximalist position so that we would concede to a lesser unfavorable offer… the U.S. has no right to express concern about the possibility of countries obtaining nuclear weapons since the U.S. has itself used this weapon and has currently several thousand nuclear bombs”. Khamenei said that “nuclear research and advancement surely ought to be observed in the negotiations” and described the P5+1 request to close down Fordow site as absurd.
Khamenei called the deadly crisis pressing his regime, especially after the developments in the region and Iraq, as “being in a truly historical bottleneck” and said that “a mistake in calculation is among the most dangerous”. He stated that “the enemy plans to create disruption in the calculation system of the Iranian officials so that they would not put goals contrary to U.S. interests on the agenda and this is the soft war that has been pointed to many years ago”. Khamenei added: “As we have repeatedly stated, the nuclear issue is just a pretext and had it not existed, other fabricated pretexts such as human rights, women’s rights, or other issues will be put on the table.”
In another section of his speech, he warned Mullah Rouhani about diminishing the role of the revolutionary guards and the Basij force and said: “Be careful that in the country’s political arena some people do not brush aside faithful currents using the slogan of moderation. Because it is this faithful current that at the time of peril comes to the defense and sacrifices sooner than anyone else and it also truly helps out the government in problems.”
In circumstances where regime’s crises deepen and expand by the day, Khamenei is trying in vain to contain the crises by insisting on the continuation of the nuclear projects and anti-American policies.
