Al Jazeera TV aired a report on Tuesday’s session of the Iraqi Parliament: “The Iraqi Parliament opened session today amid intense security measures… the number of MPs present was very low at the beginning of the session…Mehdi al-Hafez, temporary president of the Iraqi Parliament, postponed the session for next week due to ‘emergency’ reasons. The reason behind this measure was many MPs departing the session. Al-Hafez started the meeting with over half of the MPs present. Then he called a recess for talks focused on reaching an agreement on the Parliament Speaker. However, a number of factions, with the Muttahidoon and the Kurdish coalition leading the pact, did not return to the session and resulted in lack of quorum. Thus the temporary Parliament chief postponed the session until July 8th.”
